🎃Dedication

For my husband, Trevor, who missed many Halloweens. Here's to celebrating Halloween together in the future and making spirits fright. I love you. 🦇

Cast

Every good Halloween story needs a cast. Here are the recurring characters who tend to make appearances throughout this blog.

⭐ Starring

Yours truly, Kyong-Mi Dillard

Yes, I'm the star of the show. 🎃

I am the sole writer, photographer, historian, archivist, and general keeper of Halloween memories for this blog. Everything you read here comes from my own experiences, memories, photographs, and personal archives.

If you'd like to learn more about me, check out About Me. Just remember: this is my Halloween blog, so naturally, I'm the main character.

🎃 Recurring Folks

Trevor — My wonderful husband and my best friend for life. We have been together since 2016. Trevor is a huge Halloween enthusiast and is especially fond of going all out with decorations. A good portion of the Halloween fun documented here would not exist without him. You can also read more about Trevor in About Me.

Jeri — My sister and current housemate. We have different mothers but the same father. Since we live together, she occasionally becomes part of the holiday festivities whether she planned on it or not.

Sienna — My daughter and my oldest child. We are currently estranged and have not been part of each other's lives for quite some time. However, she is an important part of my family's history, and some of my earlier posts include memories and photographs from the years when we celebrated holidays together.

Kalib — My second born and my gentle giant. He's somewhat shy, incredibly sweet, and has a soft heart. He always seems to find his way home for the holidays, which makes his appearances especially meaningful.

Christopher, aka Chris or Bubba — My third born. Like his brother, he is sweet and kind, but he also inherited some of his sister's outgoing personality. He brings his own particular energy to family gatherings and holiday celebrations.

Mike — My children's father. My sons live with him, and he is therefore part of the extended family cast, even if he doesn't necessarily make a starring appearance in every Halloween adventure.

Cha, aka Mama — My mother. I usually call her Cha or Mama. Since 2023, she has spent every holiday with me.

She was born in 1940 and has lived a long and remarkably hard working life. When I was growing up, she worked extraordinarily long hours, sometimes as many as 18 hours a day. These days, her life is very different. She is living with advanced Alzheimer's disease and vascular dementia, along with significant behavioral and psychological changes associated with her illness.

It is heartbreaking to watch someone you love go through such a profound change. At the same time, I am grateful that she gets to spend this part of her life surrounded by family rather than spending her days working herself to exhaustion.

And yes, she is part of the Halloween cast, too. Although these days, she isn't exactly responsible for decorating the front yard. 🎃

👻 And Everyone Else...

There are plenty of other people who have crossed paths with me over the years, but not everyone gets a permanent spot on the cast list.

Some people simply haven't spent enough time with my family during the holidays to warrant their own recurring character introduction. When they appear in a particular story, I'll introduce them there.

Think of them as special guest stars.

After all, every good show needs a few surprises.

Now, let the Halloween adventures begin... 🕷️🎃👻
